Karen Bezuidenhout is a Santa Barbara–based artist who grew up on a farm in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Her passion for painting was sparked in 1996 after attending a local art exhibition, leading her to study at Pieter Vermaak’s art school in a historic wine cellar.
In 2000, she moved with her husband and children to Santa Barbara, where she connected with painter Bill Woolway. Her work soon gained wider attention, eventually landing in the hands of the buyer for Robert Redford’s Sundance Catalog.
Karen’s work is shaped by her global travels and lifelong love of horses. From riding across the Namib Desert to exploring the mountains of Patagonia, Italy, Spain, and the Wild Coast of South Africa, each painting captures the spirit of these adventures.
Described as “primitive yet sophisticated” and “peaceful, healing and medicinal”, her pieces—mainly in acrylic and oil stick—are created in her rustic outdoor studio, surrounded by dogs and music.
“I paint from my heart. All my paintings are tapestries of my life and imagination.”

"Something I haven't mentioned: Over the last few months, the number of UNdamaged deliveries I have received can be counted on a single hand. Absolutely not kidding. The packaging, shipping, and handling industry is a complete disaster. Thankfully, this gorgeous antique side table from @littconcepthouse.com is one of those special few." |
