Pencil & hammered charcoal on aged paper by Dutch artist, Tom Roest, who transmits the alchemy he experiences during his inner journeys. His intuitive style is combined with the reuse of old materials, which he discovers on his search in the world of antiques. Tom reuses old paper then turns them over to create a new canvas, a new beginning. His intention is to stimulate the viewer’s curiosity and spirituality.
"The artwork ‘Pillars of Peace 5:1’ is part of a series in which two keys are merged into one pillar, symbolizing collaboration and strength. The use of two keys also draws a parallel with Saint Peter, where they represent the ‘Keys of Heaven.’ The notion of merging two keys into a single pillar provides symbolic various possibilities, such as opening or closing doors and spaces. The pillars provide stability, creating a secure foundation. As the pillar is crafted from doors, the space between each key represents the connection we have with each other.
In my artwork ‘Pillars of Peace,’ the pillars serve as the central part of the temple, suggesting that we exist in the present and that only through collective effort can we sustain the temple (peace).
I created this artwork using antique keys on aged paper with pencil and charcoal. The use of charcoal adds an extra dimension to the artwork, corresponding to the saying ‘Rise from the ashes.’"

"Something I haven't mentioned: Over the last few months, the number of UNdamaged deliveries I have received can be counted on a single hand. Absolutely not kidding. The packaging, shipping, and handling industry is a complete disaster. Thankfully, this gorgeous antique side table from @littconcepthouse.com is one of those special few." |
